It’s Not About Me

Hey Friends! 

As you likely know, we are hosting our very first Sugar Mamas Financial Freedom Seminar this Saturday at UR Coliseum. And to be honest with you, the event is a little bit triggering to me. 

Let me start off by saying there have been times that I have been in financial turmoil, and to say it was just stressful, would not do it justice. There was a time when my business was realllly struggling. A time when our heat went out in the winter, and I had no money to even figure out what was wrong with it. My oldest daughter and I used a space heater in one bedroom and hunkered down in there. I was terrified to get someone to come and look at it because I was just positive the HVAC system was done. After a few months I mentioned it to someone at our church, because you know shame held me back from doing it sooner. An HVAC man that was a member came out to our house to look at it and you know what was wrong? There was a dead squirrel stuck in the vent. Once he removed it, everything worked right as rain. 

We lived in a cold ass house because I was afraid to find out the problem, and I was too proud to ask for help. 

Why am I telling you this story? To let you know that it wasn’t as bad as I thought it was. 

And honestly, its likely that’s where your finances are too. And even if they are, you can begin again! Everyone starts somewhere, and you know what, maybe its not your fault you didn’t know how to manage your money, because no one ever showed you. Maybe your money example was really terrible or maybe non-existent. Its ok. There is nothing to be ashamed of. When my business nearly failed, I carried that shame around for years. But you know what, I re-built- better and stronger than ever and whatever rubble heap your finances are in, YOU can too!

The reason I do what I do is because I don’t want anyone else to feel like I did- literally and figuratively out in the cold, isolated, ashamed and not sure what steps to take. I went through that, I felt all of it and I want something better for you. 

Financial well-being and knowledge are so near and dear to my heart and for years, many years ladies, I have tried to help so many of my male employees get a budget together, get caught up on bills, be able to get vehicles, pay off debt etc, and its mostly fallen on deaf ears. It’s been frustrating to say the least, to have all this help in your heart you want to give but nowhere for it to go. 

Its also been hard on me emotionally to plan this event, because this is the crux of Sugar Mamas, and it hasn’t gotten even an eight of the attention of all the other fun events we have done. Mentally, I have been feeling the same way I have for all those years before. 

But you know what I realized, it’s not about me. It’s about you, it’s about you being ready to take your finances into your own hands, to invest in yourself, to receive the help when you can receive it. So, its not about me, its aboutYOU. I’m going to keep on keeping on with my mission, and I feel confident that the people that are supposed to be in the room will be there. I sure hope you’re one of them.
