You Belong

Last night, I had the privilege of attending a woman’s only dinner. As I was taking my seat, I looked around the table at all the gorgeous women and their glowing faces, and I told my neighbor “Wow, I’m at the cool girl’s table.” 

For a moment I thought “wow, who let me in here?”

As we all went around the table to individually introduce ourselves, one woman in particular stood out to me. She said how honored she was to even be in the presence of other women like us and how she felt as though she didn’t belong, because she felt she had not “made it” yet. Her words were so vulnerable and genuine, and it felt like they soaked right into my heart.

A year ago, well most of my life, I felt the same way. As though I didn’t fit in or wouldn’t be accepted. These lies, and we hear them so long and so loud that we believe them.

When what we don’t realize is that others around us are feeling the exact same way, the same insecurities and anxieties regardless of how put together or successful they may seem.

And I saw women there fighting through those feelings. Proclaimed introverts putting themselves out there and pushing past their fears to make real connections. Because you know what? It’s what we all long for, and it’s worth it! It’s worth taking the risk, and I promise you’ll find someone out there that’s feels just as afraid as you. But there you’ll both be, doing it!

What I want you to know, what I wish I knew so many years ago, is -You Belong!

Don’t waste another second believing that lie.

And come on in the house.
