Y’all, I had such an amazing plan in place for doing nothing this holiday break. And ask me how it’s going…. 

Well, I’ve cooked, I’ve cleaned, I’ve done Christmas eve and morning, I’ve done outings, and I’ve worked, I’ve organized, I’ve planned, I’ve food shopped and done laundry and allllll the things. And I’ve worried. In any moment of rest (or shear exhaustion from being sick for 13 days and working myself into a stupor). I have felt worried that I am not doing enough, being enough, not using this time to “catch up” on something I “should” be doing. I have basically ruined the only planned break on my agenda for the next several months!

Why? Because I can’t get out of my head and I can’t stop listening to that nagging voice that calls me lazy for taking even a few moments of nothingness for myself. This is the voice I want to crush and stomp into the ground for 2024. The voice that makes rest painful and unattainable. Do you hear this voice too? 

For now, and the rest of the few days I have left on my precious little break. I am going to use it to do NOTHING. I’m going to watch my kids build legos, and play barbies and run around all day in their pjs. I am going to drink a couple beers and play board games with my husband. I’m going to watch a movie for no purpose other than to fall asleep to it. I might make some brownies and some veggie soup for balance.

But whatever I do from here out will be what I chose to do to relax, rejuvenate and forget that I’m a grown up with 1,787, 579 responsibilities. They will still be there when I get back. That is what I will tell myself. And most of all, I’m going to tell that voice to go right back to hell where it came from, because your girl is tired. And your girl has done enough and is enough all on her own. Tell me, what are you doing with this precious little time you have?
