Wait for the Man that Stands Up When You Enter a Room

I will forever tell this story. The first “date” Mr. Jah and I had, we met at a hole in the wall pizza place, that I picked. There was nothing memorable about the dingy little resturant, except how he stood up from the table when I walked in. I was thinking what kind of man this is?

This was 8 years ago, and I will never forget the way it made me feel. When this man came into my life and started making me walk on the inside of the sidewalk, carrying the bags, opening the doors and not allowing people to not talk to me sideways, I feel deeper and deeper in love with him. I had never experienced this type of care before. 

Growing up, I didn’t see men respecting women. I didn’t even know what that looked like. I knew what disrespect looked like though, and I knew I hated it. Yet, for whatever reason, I had been reliving that same pattern in my love life. I wasted so many years and so much heart ache on the wrong f*$%boys, going for the same type of trash but always hopeful for a different outcome. I remember praying so hard for a husband and feeling like it would never happen for me. I remember God finally spoke to my heart, “I already have a husband picked out for you.” I held so fast to that promise, and while I wish I could say that I patiently waited; I went through a lot of mess in the meantime.

But you know what I’m thankful for- that God is faithful even when we aren’t. My husband I and both talk about how we had to go through so much to truly appreciate the love we have for each other. We knew each other for 10 years before that pizza date where I devoured an entire stromboli in front of him. The timing was just off.

I could write a novel, and maybe one day I will, but for now, what am saying ladies is, hold on. If “the one” isn’t here right now, don’t settle for Mr. Right now. Don’t settle for someone that doesn’t stand up when you walk in the room. Whatever your facebook relationship status is, I hope you had a beautiful Valentines Day, and that you love yourself enough to only accept the best.
