I Cuss, I Get Mad, I Drink a Little

But God Loves Me.

And I know without a shadow of a doubt that he speaks to me, because, honey, I can’t come up with this stuff on my own. Bayybee!

Today I want to talk about asking BIG. 

Listen to this story, Nehemiah, yes, the one in the bible. Now, I’m not taking you to Sunday school, here me out. This man is the cup bearer for the King of Persia. He wants to go back to his city to begin to re-build the walls of Jerusalem, which is in shambles. He asks God for favor; he makes his BIG ask to the King (I just imagine how nerve racking this would have been! eek!). The King grants him leave to go back to his home to re-build, he lets him leave this very important job- think about letting your right-hand wo(man) or work bestie go. Second ask- traveling papers, for safe travels. King: say less. Then I guess this man was on a roll because dude asks for the timber for not only the walls, but the gates, and then the house he will be living in. Bam- granted!

Can you imagine asking your boss for a 12-year paid leave, a passport and a new construction home? Okkkk, Nehemiah, we see you, you little squeaky wheel, you! 

Now, think of this, what if he never asked? What if he never took the chance with the King to find out what the answer would be? What if he kept this in his heart and never, not ever, acted on it? What would his life look like, all those dreams would be unfulfilled, his purpose stunted. He would just be bringing the wine cup in day, after day, after day. 

What I am saying to you is- don’t be afraid of the ask, or better yet, be afraid but still ask! (Insert preaching to self here) Ask for the loan, ask for the dream to come true, ask for the sale, the partnership, the building, the job, the favor, the funds, the provision, the relationship, the unattainable! What if it’s all there waiting to be yours? MAKE THE BIG ASK. Because, damn, you never know what could happen, ask Nehemiah….
