Meet Amy
September 18, 2024
I grew up hearing a lot of negative talk about women, mostly from women. Imagine (you likely don’t have to imagine) being a little kid and trying to process the negative information you hear about women and their bodies from both genders. You just can’t win. You heard about who gained weight and who must have been “proud” of themselves wearing something too tight or revealing. Which was always ok if the woman was thin, but if there were any extras then “she doesn’t have any business wearing that.” How gross. Not the bodies or the fat, but the contempt. The attitude and judgement of women’s bodies, as if, as if, they asked for their opinion. I tell you what I know now as an adult, that those adults that made comments, felt so little inside. So insecure, about whatever it was, that they jumped to point out someone else’s flaws so not to draw attention to their own, external or internal. But let me tell you what, it did just that, it drew attention to their ugly parts. Now, I see how emotionally immature one must be to attack someone about their weight or appearance, how shallow their love for others is, and it makes me sad. It makes me sad to see videos in 2024 that go viral because a larger woman is moving her body in something that she feels good in but makes everyone else uncomfortable. Here is my advice, if you don’t like it, look away and mind your own business. As an adult, I can see all of this. As a child I internalized it. This is why as an adult it is so important for our kids, especially our daughters, to hear us and see us building up others, saying good things about ourselves, and building their confidence up to the moon! Because what you feel about yourself and others is what they will believe about themselves. Don’t do that to them, the world is cruel enough. They may not grow up hating you, just themselves. And our kids deserve better. Do as so many have told us and didn’t do- “if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.” And let that woman live and jiggle in peace. |
